Mumias East MP Peter Salasya is under arrest by unknown persons in Nanyuki.

His four wheel drive car was targeted and attacked by gunmen. He said he was safe but under arrest.

“The attackers, claiming to be DCI, hijacked the cars ahead and used them to trap me. What followed was a terrifying ambush. They shot at my vehicle’s wheels and disarmed my security.”

“This was a well-coordinated operation. Who sent them? Why now? Kenya must stand for truth and justice,” he said in a post on his social media.

Police said they are investigating the incident. They denied involvement.

According to Salasya, he was under arrest following the Friday May 16 incident.

“I have been Arrested on my way from ISIOLO-Nanyuki road.”

“Multiple unidentified vehicles intercepted and opened fire on our convoy. The tires of the car carrying Hon. Salasya were shot and the vehicle has been immobilized. His bodyguards have been disarmed, and Hon. Salasya has been taken by force.

This is a serious threat to his life and immediate intervention is needed,” another post said.

Salasya had been to Meru and Isiolo and was on his way to Nanyuki for a series of rallies when the incident happened.

It is not clear if it was a state operation and its motive.

He later posted another post on his social media.

“I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team—confiscating their firearms—and pursued my vehicle. One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee into a nearby bush for safety.

They shot at my vehicle, aiming directly at me. Shortly after, they emerged with at least 15 AK47 rifles and confronted me with a chilling message—one I cannot disclose at this time for security reasons.

What I will say is this: I have not been mentioning the government in my rallies, and I have stayed true to my call for peace and progress. I am currently being taken to an unknown location, and I urge all relevant authorities and the public to take note of what is happening.”
