    Uganda’s Museveni Becomes Fifth Most Followed African President On Twitter

    Just cleared to run for a sixth term, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni also had his social media popularity grow making him the most followed Ugandan personality on Twitter.

    Twitter, a social networking site launched in 2006, is undoubtedly one of the most popular social media platforms available today, with at least 100 million daily active users and 500 million tweets sent daily.

    With 1,001,865 followers, Museveni over the weekend became the fifth most followed African head of state.

    Leading the pack however is Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta with 3.62 million followers, followed by Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi (2.3 million), Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria (1.9 million) and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame (1.4 million).

    Politicians, it is noted are the most followed personalities in the landlocked country. Coming in second is four time presidential aspirant Dr Kizza Besigye with 353,926 followers. He is closely followed by former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi who has at least 331,000 followers.

    Also making the list of most followed Twitter personalities in Uganda is the fearless Kyadondo MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine with 264,996 followers.

    Topping the list of most followed presidents is the 44th President of the Unites States, Barack Obama who has a staggering 105 million followers, and at distant second, his successor Donald Trump.

    The 45th POTUS has 59 million followers, followed by the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi with 46.5 million.

    In the neighbouring country, Tanzania, former president Jakaya Kikwete remains the most popular personality with 1.18 million followers. The tough talking John Magufuli has 558,000 followers.

    In South Africa however, Economic Freedom Fighters party leader Julius Malema tops the list with 2.25 million followers while the President Cyril Ramaphosa has 464,000 followers.

    Having recently joined the Twitter world, former President Jacob Zuma has at least 229,000 followers.
