    Nakuru Man Jailed For Three Years For Selling Cat Meat

    Nakuru cat meat seller has been jailed for three years for the offenses of slaughtering a cat for human consumption in a deceptive manner contrary to the Foods, Drugs and Chemical Substances Act and slaughtering an animal at an undesignated place contrary to the meat control regulations.

    Chief magistrate Mararo jailed Kimani for two years for the first count and one year and Sh.50,000 fine for the second count.

    James Kimani pleaded guilty to the offense asked the court to be lenient as he was not aware that slaughtering the cats in open ground was an crime.

    “I was not aware it was wrong to slaughter the cats in an open ground adding that he could have done his business in the forests,” he said .

    He was rescued from an angry mob by the police as he was skinning one cat. He confessed to have sold cat meat to samosa vendors and hotels in Nakuru for close to seven years. He also confessed to have killed 1000 cats during the period.

    He said that some customers were interested in the skin while others bought the meat.
