Former National Lands Commission Chairman Muhammed Swazuri has said work related pressure made his wife lose pregnancy.

Speaking to KTN News on Tuesday night few moments before the end of his tenure, Swazuri claimed his position at the commission came with a lot of pressure that sometimes resulted to stress.

Agitated Swazuri claimed that unknown people threatened his wife severally during his term at the helm of the commission.

“I have lost a child because of this. My wife miscarried because of this job, you don’t put that in the newspapers. I have escaped assassination attempts, eight of them, the media has only reported on only two of them,” lamented Swazuri.

According to Swazuri, serving at the commission was not a walk in the park, his family had to suffer consequences that came with the decisions he had to make.

He, however, reiterated that despite the challenges he faced, he had the obligation of serving the country.

“You think it is easy when people are trying to kill me. I have suffered and my family has suffered but because this is my country I have to serve and I am going to do what is needed. Whether the ministry likes it or not,” he added.

Swazuri who is facing corruption charges on SGR compensation amounting to Sh221.3 million, affirmed that despite the charges leveled against him he’s confident that he served the country diligently.

He blamed the media for tainting his image, saying some media houses were paid to have his name on the headlines.

On August last year, Swazuri and 16 co-accused denied charges of  conspiring to defraud the government of Sh221.3 million.

After their arrest, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission averred it has gathered enough evidence to press corruption charges against Swazuri and the seven implicated in the Standard Gauge Railway compensations.

Last week, Swazuri was barred from accessing his office pending the hearing and determination of an application filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Also, the High Court dismissed a case where he sought to chair one last meeting before his term expires.

The six year term of commissioners at NLC lapsed on Tuesday midnight.
