National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has permanently revoked the driving licence of a truck driver involved in an accident that claimed 8 lives at Chepsir, Nakuru-Kericho Highway.

In a statement on Monday, NTSA director Francis Meja said, the driver, Abdulle Ali Mohammed is a danger to all road users and should never be allowed to drive in Kenyan roads.

Further, investigations from the last week accident revealed that the driver was driving in a wrong lane.

“Preliminary investigations into the cause of the crash indicates that the driver was descending in the climbing lane towards incoming traffic without due care causing a head on collision,” said Meja.

Meja noted that the decision is aimed at protecting other road users.

“The revocation was necessitated by the fact that the driver is a danger to all road users and should never be allowed to drive in Kenyan roads,” the statement read in part.

Further, the authority revealed that it had summoned officials of Green Line Bus Company after another accident claimed 9 lives at Kamara area.

The accident involved a Greenline bus which was coming from Eldoret and a trailer which collided head on at Kamara area.

The officials are expected to appear before the authority on February 20, 2018.

Motorists have now been cautioned to be careful or face similar consequences.

“The authority also cautions motorists that similar action shall be taken against drivers who disregard traffic rules.”
