The National Transport and Safety Authority has announced plans to replace the current paper-based motor vehicle Certificate of Registration, commonly known as the logbook, with a digital version beginning June 10, 2026.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the authority said the transition to the electronic logbook (eLogbook) marks a major milestone in its efforts to enhance efficiency, reduce paperwork and improve citizen-centred service delivery.
“The new eLogbook will be fully integrated into all motor vehicle registration processes, including new vehicle registration, transfer of ownership, change of particulars, inspection and other related transactions,” NTSA said in the notice.
Under the new system, vehicle owners will be able to access, view, download and verify their digital logbooks through the eCitizen platform at their convenience.
According to NTSA, the eLogbook is expected to improve efficiency by reducing processing times and administrative delays while enhancing document security through digital safeguards aimed at preventing forgery, loss or tampering.
The authority said the new system will also offer greater convenience to vehicle owners, insurance firms, financial institutions and other stakeholders by enabling easy online access to vehicle registration records.
Additionally, NTSA said the digital records will support better data management by providing real-time and accurate information to strengthen traffic enforcement, insurance verification and road safety initiatives.
The authority noted that the digital transition forms part of a wider strategy to establish a seamless, technology-driven ecosystem for road transport services.
“Ultimately, all NTSA service delivery timelines will be reduced from an average of three to seven days, and in some cases weeks or months, to same-day or instant service,” the authority said.
NTSA added that the move is intended to eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy, reduce physical visits to offices, improve transparency, curb opportunities for corruption and enhance user experience.
The authority said the eLogbook system will go live on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, and all motor vehicle owners will be required to access or download their electronic motor vehicle registration certificates through their eCitizen accounts upon completion of transactions.

Virtual training sessions planned
To ensure a smooth transition, NTSA has organised a series of virtual training sessions and demonstrations for stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the enhanced service processes on the eCitizen platform.
Vehicle assemblers, body builders, motor vehicle dealers and motorcycle dealers will be trained on May 25 from 9 a.m., followed by financial institutions on May 26.
The diplomatic community will undergo training on May 27 from 9 a.m., while transport network companies, insurance firms, legal practitioners, driving schools, school transport operators, heavy commercial vehicle operators, PSV operators, taxi operators and tour companies will be trained on May 27 from 2 p.m.
Training for ministries, county governments, government agencies and investigative agencies is scheduled for May 28 from 9 a.m., while members of the general public will participate in sessions between June 2 and June 4 starting at 9 a.m.
The authority has invited stakeholders to register for the virtual sessions through its website, www.ntsa.go.ke, noting that registration will close on May 20, 2026.
