Nyamira Senator Okongo O’Mogeni wants special prayers conducted by the clergy to save Nyamira from spiralling graft.

Every human effort to right things in the County, he stated, appears to be faltering and thus the need for spiritual intervention.

“At the moment the anointed prayers are sorely needed so that whoever is a leader in our County t can be touched by the Holy Ghost and desist from corruption,” he said.

He accused Governor Amos Nyaribo of lethargy and failure in addressing the the concerns of the residents who are crying for development.

“We cannot blame the national government because it has been doing its part in releasing cash but there is no project around convincing that devolution is working…. . It is utter shame,” the Nyamira Senator stated.

O’Mogeni spoke as the race for governorship is heating up in the region.

The ODM politician is among the growing number of hopefuls. already angling for the governing seat alongside Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi.

Momanyi made her bid known at a function in her home. In November 2024.

Omogeni said the level of graft in the Nyaribo government was shocking and unsettling such that pastors should pray for it.

He said much of the funds that should be allocated to development in Nyamira was being diverted to individual pockets.

“We must speak out, however, painful it may be if we are to save mwananchi from the ongoing plunder,” the Senator told journalists at his Borabu residence.

He spoke after hosting pastors from various churches across Nyamira County.

“These pastors have shared with me their pain about a County that’s not in concert with the desires of it’s electorate, it grieves me too and that is why we are saying Nyamira needs prayers,” said Omogeni.

The Senior Counsel also accused Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission of lethargy in carrying out investigations into suspected misappropriation of cash in Nyamira.

“Even EACC should be put in prayers so that whatever grievances that had been filed before the officers can be expeditiously probed and action taken.

“They should tell us how far investigations are going so that accountability is seen at the end of the day,” he said.

Nyamira, he said continues to lag behind because of bad leadership.

The pastors through pastor Joshua Oindi said they are worried by lack of unity among the County leaders.

Oindi said meeting Omogeni was the part of the concerted efforts in bring leaders to the table to address issues concerning the residents.
