    President Uhuru Proposes Reduction of VAT on Fuel from 16 to 8 per cent

    President Uhuru Kenyatta during his state of the Nation address said that he has proposed a reduction of the Value added Tax (VAT) on petroleum products to 8%.

    “I have heard and understand your concerns , which is why I have proposed , as apart of the memorandum to cut VAT on petroleum products by 50% from 16% to 8%,” the president said

    The president also said that the government would also impose a wide range cuts on spending by reducing the expenditure on hospitality, foreign and domestic travel, seminars and trainings.

    The president also said that he has proposed increased funding for the Judiciary and the office of the the director of Public prosecution (DPP) in order to expedite prosecution on corruption matters.

    President Uhuru however reitarated that the development agenda and the constitutional order needed money and therefore delay in implementation of the tax would compromise our ability to deliver .
