Kenyans can breathe easy after the government reduced Super petrol prices by Sh7.21 despite higher landing costs.
The prices of diesel dropped by Sh5.09 and that of kerosene by Sh4.49.
In the monthly review issued by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), landed cost for super petrol increased by 5.6 per cent to $703 compared to last month.
That of diesel dropped by 0.76 per cent to $722.49 while that of kerosene increased by 1.65 per cent to $730.50.
In Nairobi, Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene will effective March 15 retail at Sh199.15, Sh190.38 and Sh188.74, respectively.
In Mombasa, Petrol will sell at Sh195.97, diesel will retail at Sh187.21 while a litre of Kerosene will sell at Sh185.58.
Kisumu residents will for the next month buy Super Petrol at Sh198.97, Diesel at Sh190.59 and Kerosene at Sh188.96.
Those in Nakuru and Eldoret will purchase a litre of Super Petrol at Sh198.21 and Sh198.98 respectively. Diesel will sell at Sh189.82 (Nakuru) and Ksh190.59 (Eldoret).
“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decreases by Ksh7.21 per litre, Ksh5.09 per litre and Ksh4.49 per litre respectively,” said EPRA.
“The prices are inclusive of the 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.”
EPRA credited the recent drop to several factors including the drop in the value of the dollar. The applied exchange rate used in the latest review was Ksh148, in comparison with Ksh164.42 which was used last month.
