A senior police officer was at the weekend arrested in connection with a shooting incident where a boda boda rider was shot and wounded in a road rage incident in Nkubu, Meru County.
The officer is said to be the one in charge of Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Imenti South Sub County.
The Chief inspector of police attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is linked to a shooting incident that happened on April 2, 2025 in Nkubu where the boda boda rider identified as Festus Mutegi Kirimi was shot and injured in the abdomen.
Kirimi, 25 was shot on his right side abdomen in a confrontation, witnesses said.
This prompted a probe that led to the arrest of the senior officer.
Kirimi reported that while at Kionyo stage with his motorcycle encountered a G-Touring white car with two occupants-a male and a female.
A confrontation broke out prompting the rider to speed off from the site to Kiigine market where he was dropping a passenger.
He said upon reaching at the gate of Winners Academy the male occupant of the car who was trailing him drew a pistol and shot him on the right side abdomen.
The gunman drove off toward Nkubu township. Police officers from Nkubu Police Station visited the scene after a mob became angry blocking the road.
They managed the mob and took the injured man to the hospital before prompting an investigation.
The victim was immediately rushed to the Consolata Mission Hospital in stable condition where he is undergoing treatment.
The cause was not immediately established but it was linked to the earlier road rage.
Police said they will ensure justice in the case even as they termed it isolated.
Last month, a police officer attached to the DCI Molo, Nakuru County, was disarmed and arrested after he was allegedly involved in a shooting incident involving a boda boda rider.
The rider was shot and injured in the head.
The victim recorded a statement with the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) from his hospital bed.
The victim said he was shot and injured by a police officer following an altercation between the DCI officer and a pillion passenger.
He said a passenger asked him to take her to her home in Ole polos.
“When we reached I found a man waiting and he asked me where I was coming with his wife. A confrontation broke out and I felt a pain and bleeding,” he added.
The incident is the latest involving police and in confrontations.
On March 23, a police officer attached to the State House Spokesman Hussein Mohamed shot and killed a man in a confrontation over a pool game in Kawangware, Nairobi.
