Standard Group CEO sacked its Editorial Director Chacha Mwita and then had him escorted by watchmen out of the building. It was extreme humiliation for Chacha Mwita when he was even forced to endure being escorted by the building watchmen out of the premises.

Chacha Mwita, Mark Kapchanga and Kipkoech Tanui were being blamed for portraying State House in bad light in the Ksh 100 million story. The story revealed how the President’s austerity talk was all empty talk as the cabinet wasted Ksh 100 million on a retreat while the government has all the facilities in Nairobi to accommodate the cabinet for almost nothing.

Chacha Mwita is also reported to have insisted that Jicho Pevu’s piece on “What Happened at the Ballot” be run without much editing as demanded by Sam Shollei. Mr Shollei has now blocked the piece from running after he was offered Ksh 65 million in adverts by contacts in State House. The Jicho Pevu exposé has now been blocked from being screened. The editorial team at Standard Group feel that their professionalism is being jeopardised by a leader who is incompetent and corrupt.

Sam Shollei is being supported by Joshua Kulei while Gideo Moi is said to not be happy with the going ons in the group. The editorial independence is completely being messed as the ratings of The Standard, Radio Maisha and KTN spiral downwards. Key talents have exited Radio Maisha recently with the Head of Radio Tom Japanni being said not to be in good books with many presenters and journalists.

Some of the key staff who have left Radio Maisha are Ali Haji Kipapuro, Esther Ingolo, Velma Mrenje, Peter Adams, Kamau Kani, Apopo Mujema, Betty Opondo among others. Tom Japanni recently withdrew comedian Mshamba from presenting after it was leaked to him that the comedian planned to resign on air. Tom is husband to Milele FM’s Massawe Jappani.

Key staff within KTN are contemplating resigning as they believe that they see no value in what they are doing at the State Controlled media group. Sam Shollei has called a meeting for today at the offices where he is expected to engage the staff on various issues.
