An unofficial street car racing in Namanga border between Kenyans and Tanzanians turned tragic today, with eight people dying in a clash that involved two cars.

Most of those who died were spectators. Scores were injured and taken to hospital.

The accident involved two cars, one Kenyan and the other from Tanzania, which were destroyed beyond recovery.

According to sources who were part of the race, the Kenyan Colt Ralliart was turning off the road and was T-boned by green Lexus Aristo from Tanzania.

The green Aristo was doing a flyby high-speed when the collision happened.

“The red Colt was crossing and Aristo didn’t see it and crashed into the side and pushed the colt into spectators,” says an eye witness.

The accident happened at Ol Donyo Sambu, 25 Kilometres from Arusha

The Unofficial Racing competition was dubbed “The Arusha Drive 3.0” and had attracted racers from both Kenya and Tanzania.

The event scheduled between April 19 and 21, 2019 was being advertised under the tagline “The roads will never be the same again”.
