Detectives from Kiminini in Trans Nzoia County have arrested a suspect linked to the alleged sexual assault and subsequent death of a minor.

In a statement on Friday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspect as Erick Wamalwa Namukana, alias Funje, who is the child’s stepfather.

According to the DCI, the suspect went into hiding following the incident, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt to track him down and bring him to justice.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the minor was allegedly sexually assaulted between March 2 and 3, 2026, before being rushed to Bikeke Health Centre for treatment.

The child was later referred to Kijana Wamalwa Referral Hospital, where he was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the suspect allegedly fled to an unknown destination, prompting detectives to intensify investigations and pursue leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

The DCI said sustained efforts led to the suspect’s arrest in the Shimo la Tewa area of Milimani, Kiminini Sub-County.

He was subsequently escorted to the DCI Kiminini offices, where investigators are processing him ahead of his arraignment at Kitale Law Courts.

“The DCI extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends, and remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting children from sexual violence, pursuing justice for victims, and ensuring that such grave offences are thoroughly investigated and those found culpable are held accountable in accordance with the law,” the agency said.
