Police in Kiambu East Sub-County are investigating a suspected stupefying and theft incident involving a 48-year-old Tanzanian national employed by the United Nations in Nairobi.

According to the police, the woman claimed she was drugged by an unidentified man while at Pelican Hotel and Restaurant on May 10.

The complainant told police that the suspect, whom she said she could identify by appearance, was also at the hotel before allegedly administering an unknown substance to her.

She stated that the two later drove together towards Ruiru, where the suspect allegedly stole several valuables from her while she was in a compromised state.

The stolen items included an iPhone 13 Pro Max, a gold chain worth Sh170,000, earrings valued at Sh60,000, a watch worth Sh20,000, cash amounting to Sh5,000, a diplomatic identification card, KCB plate, NMB plate, Signa Insurance plate and two passport photographs.

The woman further informed investigators that she had been admitted to hospital following the incident and was only discharged on Thursday May 14 when she proceeded to report the matter to police.

Investigations into the alleged stupefying and theft incident are ongoing.

Stupefying has been on the rise amid efforts to address the menace.

Police said they are investigating the case involving a man.

Cases involving suspected stupefying substances have been on the rise, with police urging members of the public to exercise caution when meeting unfamiliar individuals and to closely monitor their drinks in social settings.

No arrest had been made by Saturday morning but police said they were pursuing good leads on the same.

Such cases of stupefying have been on the rise in some clubs in the area. Police said they had recorded a surge in the incidents and the gang behind the same came from in and around Nairobi.

In some unfortunate incidents, victims of stupefying have lost their lives after being heavily drugged, hence the need to exercise caution and always party around known friends who would have your back in case of such danger, police say.
