Dylan Carter, a former contestant on The Voice, has died following a car accident in the United States, according to law enforcement and local reports. He was 24.
Authorities said a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred late Saturday night at around 11:42 p.m. on Lowcountry Highway in Colleton County. While officials did not immediately release the victim’s identity, multiple local outlets identified the deceased as Carter.
The singer had been scheduled to perform in Moncks Corner on Monday, but the event has since been cancelled.
Carter rose to wider recognition in 2023 when he appeared on Season 24 of The Voice. His blind audition, in which he performed I Look to You by Whitney Houston, earned a rare four-chair turn from the judges.
He ultimately chose Reba McEntire as his coach during his time on the show and remained in the competition for several weeks.
During his audition, Carter spoke about his lifelong passion for music and dedicated his performance to his mother, who had died the year prior.
Originally from St. George, a town near Charleston, Carter had been building his music career in recent years.
