Kenya has issued a travel advisory to South Sudan citing insecurity.

“Kenyan nationals living or traveling to South Sudan to move away from and avoid traveling to areas where armed conflicts and inter-ethnic violence have occurred within the last six months,” CS Foreign Affairs Monica Juma said.

Kenyan citizens are advised to avoid areas in the Greater Upper Nile Region and in particular Bieh, Latjoor, Akobo, Jonglei.

“Kenyan nationals in other parts of the country are advised to exercise extreme caution as they undertake their daily activities,” the CS continued.

Also on the list is the Northern Liech and parts of Maiwut, Eastern Nile, Boma, and Yei River State.

The advisory came after pilots detained by South Sudan rebels safely landed in Kenya. The two were released after a Sh10.8 million settlement.
