President Uhuru yesterday hosted some 9 Coast MPs in a private meeting whose intention was to make sure that the regional leaders didn’t support CORD’s referendum calls. The 9 including Masudi Mwahima, Gideon Mung’aro, Zainab Chidzuga, Gonzi Rai, Khatib Mwashetani, Dan Kazungu, Peter Shehehe, Aisha Jumwa Katana and their leader Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir were hosted at Mombasa’s State House.
Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was barred from entering the premises when they realised that he is a hardliner and might not be easy to convince to drop his support for the former PM Raila Odinga and the whole referendum charade.
In the meeting, Uhuru tasked Shariff Nassir’s son (Abdulswamad) to lead the onslaught against Raila at the Coast while the likes of Mung’aro and Chidzuga would support him. The meeting’s resolution did not sit well with some of the attendees claiming that the President can’t bribe them with Biriani and expect them to forget the historical injustices like the assassination of Muslim clerics, land grabbing and the impoverishment of the locals by people who still have influence in Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.
Most Coast residents are still bitter at what is happening in Lamu, Mombasa, Taita Taveta and Kwale where the Kenyatta family hold huge tracts of land they were illegally allocated.
