Outspoken City Pastor Godfrey Migwi has criticised the (in)famous March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The man of cloth says that the handshake has done the country no much good, putting in mind the rampant corruption witnessed in the country of late.

He however lauds the peace and stability brought forth by the handshake.

“Even though most of us don’t even realize it, the handshake could as well be the worst thing that has happened to this country but still the other hand was good for our stability, peace and unity, so we need to check and balance. If you can remember keenly, before the handshake, no single scandal in this country could go unnoticed,” he says.

Pastor Migwi notes that the opposition, which now seems moribund, was key in whistleblowing and highlighting corruption and public embezzlement cases, forcing the government to take action.

“Immediately it went down or even before, the opposition was up in arms raising the alarm on whoever cared to listen. Uhuru and his government would have no choice but be accountable. But now in the event of the handshake, everyone seems to be on the same team. No alarms and no accountability whatsoever,” laments the preacher.

He further hints that the handshake could be another avenue created by the duo or their supporters in government to loot more, as it is being witnessed in the current

“Only handshakes which might just be avenues to share and distribute stolen loot and before we know it, our already deplorable country is no more. No country would ever get to Canaan without an opposition in tow, none! Any country without watchdog will go down slowly, and when the dog is silent which used to bark,” he adds.

Lately, the government has lost billions of money in scandals which the opposition has kept mum.

The opposition suffered another blow when Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula announced that he would disassociate himself from the opposition coalition NASA after he fell out with Raila. Later, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka declared his support to the government, leaving Musalia Mudavadi in the cold, who has been silent since the handshake.

This week in an interview with Citizen TV, Raila said that he was helping the government fight corruption from inside, despite having been silent about corruption cases in the country.
