    Governor Waiguru Drops Defamation Case Against Raila After Private Meeting

    Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru on Wednesday dropped her defamation case against ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.

    The governor resolved to settle the matter out of court after a meeting with Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices.

    “Just had a meeting with former Prime Minister H.E Right Honorable Raila Odinga on the outstanding matter in court. In the spirit of cohesion and reconciliation in the country, the matter stands settled,” she said in a tweet.

    On his part, the former Prime Minster said that they are letting “by-gones be by-gones” all in the spirit of reconciliation.

    “Held a meeting with Governor Anne Waiguru and agreed to “let by-gones be by-gones” and leave the matter of the NYS scandal in the hands of investigators. She said her case against me is now settled in the spirit of reconciliation that the nation has embarked on,” Odinga stated.

    They also discussed matters devolution with Odinga affirming his support for it.

    “We also reviewed the status of devolution in the country and agreed to exchange views frequently on how to address the challenges,” he added.

    Their dispute arose in 2015 when Odinga and his party members called for her prosecution when she served as the Devolution CS for the loss of Sh769 million in the first NYS saga.

    She accused Odinga of tarnishing her name. The latter also sought to have the county boss subjected to a lifestyle audit.
