    Born on October 1, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, Tom Bosley was raised in a Jewish household. He attended Lake View High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military service, he pursued higher education at DePaul University, where he honed his acting skills.

    Bosley’s television career began in the mid-1950s with roles in anthology series such as Hallmark Hall of Fame. Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, he made guest appearances in numerous shows, including Car 54, Where Are You?, Bonanza, The Mod Squad, and Bewitched.

    His defining role came in 1974 when he was cast as Howard Cunningham, the wise and lovable father on Happy Days. Over 11 seasons, Bosley’s performance earned him critical acclaim and an Emmy nomination. The show became a cultural phenomenon, cementing his status as one of television’s most recognizable father figures.

    While starring in Happy Days, he also appeared in several television films and lent his voice to animated projects such as Wait Till Your Father Gets Home.

    Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Bosley continued making guest appearances on shows such as The Drew Carey Show, ER, Touched by an Angel, and That ’70s Show. He also worked in animated series, voicing characters in Jason and the Heroes of Mount Olympus and Betsy’s Kindergarten Adventures. His final television appearance came in 2010.

    Bosley made his film debut in 1963’s Love with the Proper Stranger, followed by The World of Henry Orient, Divorce American Style, and Yours, Mine and Ours. His film career spanned several decades, with later roles in O’Hara’s Wife (1982), Million Dollar Mystery (1987), Popstar (2005), and The Back-up Plan (2010).

    His Broadway career was equally illustrious. In 1959, he won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Mayor Fiorello La Guardia in Fiorello!. Later, he played Maurice in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and took part in the national tour of Show Boat. His final stage role was in a production of On Golden Pond in 2006.

    Personal Life

    Bosley married Jean Eliot in 1962, and the couple had a daughter, Amy. After Jean’s passing in 1978, he married actress Patricia Carr in 1980, and they remained together until his death.

    On October 19, 2010, Tom Bosley passed away at the age of 83 due to complications from a staph infection.
