While most carry milk or soda and bread to curb the pangs of hunger that bite during night fishing exhibitions, some fishermen in Homa bay thought it better to cook while aboard and it cost their lives.

The two, Joseph Aduda, 30, and 24-year-old Kevin Odera drowned in Lake Victoria on Tuesday night after their boat caught fire at Nyandiwa beach. Two of their colleagues however survived the ordeal.

The deceased with their colleagues were preparing a meal on a charcoal stove when when strong winds fanned the flames causing afire.

The men from Masara beach in Migori county were on their way to Nyandiwa for a fishing expedition.

When the boat caught fire, the group was stranded since they could not swim owing to the strong tides. Luckily, the two survived while divers are searching for the bodies of the two who perished.
