Police have rescued a 3-year-old boy who was kidnapped from his home in Ruiru, Kiambu County, following a swift operation that led to the arrest of two male suspects in Nyeri.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the rescue followed a report of a missing child filed by the distraught parents at Ruiru Police Station.
Detectives then launched a thorough investigation that led them to Western and Central Kenya.
The breakthrough came in Tetu, Nyeri County, where officers stormed the home of one of the suspects. There, they found the missing child in the company of two men β George Maina, the homeowner, and Samuel Juma, the man suspected to have abducted the boy from Ruiru.
The child was rescued and taken to safety, while both suspects were arrested and taken into custody.
βThe child’s parents have since been informed of the rescue even as he undergoes medical examination in a hospital, pending their reunion,β the DCI said in the statement.
The arrest of the two suspected child traffickers comes at a time when the country is grappling with a rise in cases of missing children.
Authorities have expressed concern over the growing trend, with the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit pledging to use all means necessary to crack down on child traffickers and protect vulnerable minors.
