Teachers’ Unions have threatened to withdraw their staff from Kapedo and Baringo areas over increased insecurity.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) together with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) have called on teachers to pack their luggage and leave the region should the state fail to restore security.
The Unions further issued an ultimatum to the government to restore calm in the area within 7 days.
“I’m asking teachers wherever they are, if you feel your life is in danger, very quickly collect your luggage and come to the director’s office as soon as possible,” said KNUT Baringo branch Secretary Joshua Cheptarus.

KUPPET National Chairman Omboko Milemba also echoed the sentiments adding that teachers’ lives should not be lost due to insecurity in the country.
“We’re giving the government just 7 days, if they don’t do security work in Kapedo, then we shall ask all our teachers to withdraw…and we shall ask TSC, just like we did in North Eastern, to withdraw all the teachers in Baringo, Kapedo and environs so that we don’t lose teachers because of insecurity that should otherwise be provided by the government of Kenya,” said Milemba.
Insecurity in Northern Turkana has been on the rise with close to 10 people reported dead in one week.
Last week, an IEBC commissioner among six other people were killed at Arabal sub-location in Baringo County.

The bodies of the six were picked by police officers and taken to the Baringo County Referral Hospital morgue.
The killings have been linked to banditry activities in the region.
