There was drama along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway on the evening of July 1, 2025, after two suspects abandoned their vehicle and escaped into a maize plantation during a police chase.

According to a statement from the police, officers from Ntulele Police Station in Narok East Sub-County intercepted a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado suspected of ferrying narcotics from Kisii to Nairobi.

The vehicle’s driver reportedly defied orders to stop, prompting a high-speed chase along the busy highway.

The pursuit came to an abrupt end when the vehicle developed mechanical problems and was found abandoned along the Nairegie Enkare feeder road.

Police said the two occupants fled into nearby maize fields and are still being sought.

Upon searching the abandoned vehicle, officers discovered three sacks containing 600 rolls of cannabis sativa, commonly known as bhang.

Both the vehicle and the narcotics were taken to Ntulele Police Station, where they are being held as investigations continue.

“The National Police Service commends the public for their vigilance and urges ongoing cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking,” police said.
