A 56-year-old man was found dead under unclear circumstances inside a church toilet in Nyamemiso, Nyaribari Chache constituency, Kisii County.

Police said the body of Barnabus Machoni Kitoyi was discovered inside the Christ Nyamemiso Church’s toilet with a black piece of cloth tied around his neck and fastened to the toilet roof rafter.
A machete was also found placed conspicuously on the toilet door.

Officers say the scene appeared undisturbed, raising suspicion that the toilet could be a secondary scene.

The deceased’s stomach was swollen, his shirt was blood-stained around the collar—believed to be blood that may have oozed from the mouth.

Police further established that Kitoyi lived alone in a semi-permanent house about one kilometer away from where his body was found.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police said.

The body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

Preliminary reports indicate the deceased may have been embroiled in a land dispute with neighbors, a case that is currently before the Kegati Chief’s Office and was set for hearing on the December 8, 2025.

Elsewhere, four suspected con artists have been arrested after they were found defrauding a businessman in a fictitious Prisons Service tender.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that the quartet, posing as senior Kenya Prisons officers, conned a businessman Sh105,000 while promising to supply vegetables to Kitui GK Prisons.

The four are then said to have disappeared with the money, prompting a probe, leading to the arrest of Clement Wachira, Andrew Kimani, Ann Waweru, and Rehema Makandi.

An inspection conducted inside their car led to the discovery of 37 fake Kenya Prisons Service tender approval forms, two fake Kenya Prison Service job IDs, eight mobile phones and six ID cards belonging to different individuals.

And in a swift response to mobile banking fraud in Mulot, detectives launched a coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest of five suspects at the bustling Mulot market.

The suspects, Daniel Njenga Njeri, Salome Chepngeno, Nelson Kipsang Langat, Erick Cheruiyot, and Geofrey Cheruiyot, are in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment to face charges of conspiracy to defraud, engaging in organised crime, and the acquisition of proceeds from crime, among other charges
