A man aged 87 who had earlier been reported missing in Kandara Sub-County, Murang’a County, was found dead at Murang’a Level V Hospital under unclear circumstances.

Police said the deceased, identified as Maina Mugai, had been reported missing on March 19, 2026, at Githumu Police Station.

The hospital administrators told the family that their father had died on Sunday, March 22, 2026, while inside a toilet at the facility.

Preliminary information indicates that the elderly man is believed to have fallen while in the hospital restroom, leading to his death.

The body is currently preserved at Murang’a County Level V Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have recorded the incident, and investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities urged patience as forensic examinations are conducted to provide clarity on the incident.

Elsewhere, police in Kibwezi Sub-County, Makueni County, launched investigations following the discovery of a decomposing body of an unidentified man in Machinery area.

The body was found on March 23, 2026, at around 11:30 a.m. by a local resident who had been working on her farm near Machinery Market.

The resident became suspicious after noticing a strong foul smell emanating from an unfinished building.

Upon checking the premises, she discovered the lifeless body and promptly reported the matter to authorities.

The body, described as that of a middle-aged man, was found lying on the ground in an advanced state of decomposition. Police said no identification documents were recovered at the scene, and the deceased remains unknown.

Authorities on Tuesday appealed to members of the public with missing relatives or any information that may assist in identifying the deceased to report to the nearest police station.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known, police said.
