Police in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, are investigating murder after the decomposed body of an unidentified woman was discovered inside a 75-foot-deep well in Inorero Village, Karani Sub-location.

The body was discovered on Tuesday morning after a resident went to the well to fetch water.

According to police, the man was pulling up a bucket tied to a rope when he noticed that it had become stuck inside the well. He used a torch to establish what was obstructing the bucket and saw a body lying at the bottom.

He immediately alerted his family members, who joined him and confirmed the discovery before the matter was reported to police.

Police together with the Kiambu County fire and rescue team, visited the scene.

The body was retrieved from the well and photographed and documented by investigators.

Police described the deceased as an unidentified woman aged approximately 30 years. She was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans trousers and had no shoes.

The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, with the skin peeling off, making immediate identification difficult.

Neighbours who gathered at the scene said they did not recognise the woman. Detectives are investigating the possibility that she may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped into the well.

The body was moved to Thika Hospital mortuary for preservation pending identification and a postmortem examination to establish the cause and circumstances of her death.

Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information about a missing woman matching the description to assist with the identification.

The locals were left disgusted after realizing they had been using the water with the decomposed body therein.

And police in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, have launched investigations after the body of a 35-year-old man was found floating in an abandoned borehole at Kotieno Village, Ramula Sub-location.

The body of Dison Juma Anyango was discovered by members of the public on Tuesday afternoon.

Police officers visited the scene and retrieved the body from the approximately 30-foot-deep borehole.

The deceased’s father, told police that his son had left their home in Kiliti Village on August 8, intending to visit his brother in Kibigori.

The family was later shocked to learn that his body had been found in the abandoned borehole.

Police said the body had no visible physical injuries.

The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Othoo Morgue for preservation pending an autopsy to establish the cause and circumstances of his death.

    Investigations are ongoing.
