Police in Bungoma County are investigating the death of a seven-year-old girl in Sirisia under unclear circumstances, with seven suspects currently in custody.

According to police, the minor was brought dead to Chwele Sub-County Hospital.

Police visited the hospital and found the body lying on a hospital bed. Preliminary observation indicated blood oozing from the mouth, with the child’s fists clenched.

The girl, a resident of Munyanganyi Village in Namwela Location, had been taken to the hospital at around 4:00 p.m. by her mother.

The mother told police that the child had complained of stomach pain on April 12 at about 4:00 p.m., prompting her to administer anti-malarial drugs (AL).

On April 13 at around 2:00 p.m., she returned home and found the child in severe pain, before rushing her to hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police processed and documented the scene at the family’s home, and the body was moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Seven suspects have since been arrested to assist with investigations. Authorities say inquiries are ongoing.

Meanwhile, police in Tharaka Nithi County arrested a 40-year-old man following the death of his 78-year-old mother after an alleged assault in Igamba Ng’ombe Sub-County.

The incident occurred on April 12 at around 2:30 p.m. in Kamwimbi area.

The suspect is alleged to have assaulted his mother, Rose Mbura, using a wooden stick during a domestic altercation.

The elderly woman was initially rushed to Ishiara Hospital before being referred to Chuka Level 5 Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers visited the scene and recovered the suspected assault weapon, a wooden stick. Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) personnel from Chuka processed and documented the scene.

The suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody as investigations continue.

The body of the deceased has been preserved at Chuka General Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
