DR Congo’s Ligue 1 title will be on the line Monday when AS Vita Club face-off with St. Eloi Lupopo in Lubumbashi.

A win for the Kinshasa giants, who are currently second in the 12-team playoffs table standings, will see them bag the title for the 14th time overall.

Leaders and defending champions TP Mazembe signed off the 2017-18 season on a high with a 3-0 thumping of Rangers over the weekend.

Three points separate Mazembe and Vita, and with the latter enjoying a massive goal difference, a win today will see them declared champions with a game to spare.

Both teams have already qualified for continental football next season. Five time African champions Mazembe are currently playing in the CAF Champions League.

Despite insecurity in parts of DRC due to endless civil wars, football remains a huge favorite for the country’s population of over 80 million people.

Vodacom Ligue 1 as the topflight is known for sponsorship reasons and is one of the toughest and most competitive in the continent partly because of the country’s vast and remote landscape.

League matches record massive crowds as fans throng stadiums to cheer their teams and forget their troubles.

AS Vita Club, Daring Club Motema Pembe, TP Mazembe and Sanga Balende of Mbuji Mai are some of the nation’s big clubs.

A derby match between Vita and DCMP a few years back at Martyrs Stadium, Kinshasa clocked a record 80,000 fans.
