    Man dies after assault over disputed bar bill in Migori

    Police in Nyatike Sub-County, Migori County, are investigating a murder incident in which a 26-year-old man succumbed to injuries sustained during an alleged fight at a local entertainment joint.

    The incident was reported on June 21, 2026.

    John Ouma Oyier, 26,was seriously injured and taken to Ong’er Health Centre. He rushed to the facility and found the victim with a deep panga wound to the head and a stab wound to the back.

    The victim was later transferred to Ombo Mission Hospital in critical condition, where he was admitted. However, he succumbed to his injuries at around 7:00 a.m. on June 21, 2026, while undergoing treatment.

    Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident stemmed from an altercation at Pile Loungebetween the deceased and a bouncer identified as Prit Omondi, reportedly over an unpaid bill.

    Police visited the hospital and confirmed that the body of the deceased was placed in the mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.

    Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and police are pursuing persons of interest linked to the altercation.

    And police in Nyamira South Sub-County are investigating a suspected murder and arson incident after the body of a 22-year-old man was discovered in a pool of water at Sironga Village, Ibucha Sub-location.

    Police officers from Kiambere responded to the scene where they recovered the body of Eric Bange Sambu, a 22-year-old Kisii man.

    Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was last seen on June 19, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m. at a bar in Sironga Shopping Centre. The bar has since been set ablaze by irate members of the public following the incident.

    Investigators established that an altercation allegedly occurred at the bar, after which the victim is believed to have been murdered and his body dragged approximately one kilometre from the scene. The bar owner has since gone missing.

    Both the murder scene and the fire scene were documented and processed by Crime Scene Investigators from Nyamira.

    The body, which had multiple injuries, was moved to Nyamira County Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination.

    Police have launched investigations into both the killing and the arson, as efforts continue to trace the suspects involved.

    Elsewhere, police in Tharaka South Sub-County are investigating a murder and attempted murder incident in which a woman was severely injured and her one-year-old grandchild was killed in an attack linked to allegations of HIV infection.

    The incident was reported at Marimanti Police Station on June 21, 2026.

    Police officers responded to the scene, about six kilometres north of the station, where they established that the attack occurred at around 6:30 a.m. within the lodgings.

    Preliminary reports indicate that the woman, 33 woman working as a barmaid, was attacked by a 25-year-old man, who allegedly accused her of infecting him with HIV.

    During the attack, the woman was seriously injured with multiple cuts and was rushed to Marimanti Level 4 Hospital, where she was admitted in critical condition.

    Her grandchild, aged one year and two months, sustained a fatal cut wound to the neck and was pronounced dead. The child’s body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.

    Police arrested the suspect at the scene. A blood-stained panga, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered hidden under a bed.

    Investigations further revealed that the suspect had earlier been subjected to mob action, sustaining head injuries before being treated and discharged from hospital under police guard.

    The scene was documented and processed by crime scene investigators, and police have launched further investigations into the motive and circumstances surrounding the attack.
