Police in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, are investigating murder after a 50-year-old man was found dead inside a makeshift food kiosk.

The deceased was identified as Mike Shikaro, a resident of Sukunanga Village.

His body was discovered on Monday morning, August 10, 2026, by a woman who had gone to open her makeshift kiosk along the Old Nairobi Road at about 7 am.

The woman reportedly found the man lying inside the structure and, upon checking on him, realised that he was unresponsive. She alerted police officers, who visited the scene together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The officers found Shikaro’s lifeless body inside the food kiosk near the Church of God in Sukunanga Shopping Centre, along the Annex–Quickmart Road in Elgon View Sub-Location, Racecourse Location.

Police said the deceased had a visible injury on the left side of his head, which appeared to have been inflicted using a blunt object.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred sometime during the night of August 9 and 10, although the exact time remains unknown.

DCI officers processed and documented the scene before the body was removed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Eldoret pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police have opened an inquest file as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding Shikaro’s death.

And police in Kuria West, Migori County, have launched investigations into the death of a 34-year-old woman who allegedly died after being assaulted by her husband.

The deceased was identified as Ann Gati Mwasi, whose body was taken to the Kehancha Sub-County Hospital mortuary on Monday morning.

According to police, a mortuary attendant reported that the body was brought to the facility by relatives at about 9:30am after being transferred from Mother and Child Hospital in Kehancha Township.

During an examination of the body, the attendant noticed injuries on the head, back, hands and legs. Relatives reportedly told him that Mwasi had been assaulted by her husband on Sunday, August 9.

Police officers from Kehancha Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Kuria West visited the mortuary and processed the scene.

The officers later proceeded to the deceased’s homestead in an attempt to arrest the suspect, but he had reportedly fled.

A search of the house led to the recovery of a wooden club and a piece of metal rod bearing blood stains. Police believe the two items may have been used in the alleged assault and have preserved them as exhibits.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death continue.
