Caroline Wozniacki is a Danish former professional tennis player, born on July 11, 1990, in Odense, Denmark, to Polish immigrant parents Piotr and Anna Wozniacki.
Of Polish ancestry, she grew up in a highly athletic family and began playing tennis at age seven under the guidance of her father, a former professional soccer player who later served as her coach for much of her career.
Wozniacki turned professional in 2005 at age 15 and rose to become the first Scandinavian woman to reach the world No. 1 ranking in singles.
She is known for her defensive baseline style, exceptional footwork, stamina, and consistency.
Married to former NBA player David Lee since 2019, she has children and has also worked as a tennis analyst.
After an initial retirement following the 2020 Australian Open, she made a comeback in 2023 before stepping away from the professional circuit again.
Siblings
Caroline has one sibling, an older brother named Patrik Wozniacki, born in 1986 and four years her senior.
Like their father, Patrik pursued a career as a professional soccer player in Denmark, appearing for clubs including Hvidovre IF and later ending his playing career around 2021.
He has since worked as a football agent and tennis commentator for Danish television.
The siblings share a close bond, with Patrik providing consistent support throughout Caroline’s career; he was notably emotional and tearful during her 2018 Australian Open victory.

Career
Wozniacki launched her professional career in 2005 and quickly excelled on the junior circuit, capturing the girls’ singles title at the 2006 Wimbledon Championships.
She claimed her first WTA Tour singles title in 2008 in Stockholm, becoming the first Danish woman to win a WTA event, and was named WTA Newcomer of the Year that same season.
Her breakthrough on the biggest stages came with a run to the 2009 US Open final.
In 2010 she ascended to world No. 1 for the first time and finished the year as the top-ranked player, repeating as year-end No. 1 in 2011.
She held the No. 1 ranking for a total of 71 weeks.
Over her career she compiled a strong record of consistency, winning at least one title in 11 consecutive seasons from 2008 to 2018.
After announcing her retirement after the 2020 Australian Open amid a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis, she returned to the tour in 2023, reaching the fourth round of the US Open among other results, before concluding her competitive playing days.
Accolades
Wozniacki’s major achievements include one Grand Slam singles title, the 2018 Australian Open, where she defeated Simona Halep in the final and simultaneously returned to the world No. 1 ranking.
She was runner-up at the US Open in 2009 and 2014.
She also captured the 2017 WTA Finals title.
In total she won 30 WTA Tour singles titles and two doubles titles, along with three Premier Mandatory and three Premier 5 titles.
She represented Denmark in the Fed Cup and competed at the Olympics in 2008 and 2012, serving as flag bearer at the 2016 Rio Games.
Additional honors include Danish Sportsperson of the Year awards and induction into the Danish Sports Hall of Fame.
