The Federation of Public Transport Operators has advised its members to withdraw their services starting Monday.

The federation chairman Edwin Mukabana on Saturday told reporters that they need time to adhere to the new traffic guidelines also known as the Michuki Rules.

“We would like to advise our members to withdraw their services on Monday for the purposes of aligning our operations to the new guidelines,” Mukabana said.

Mr Mukabana has also noted that they have written to the Ministry of Transport seeking clarifications on some of the guidelines which he said are discriminatory.

These guidelines include; changing PSVs’ colour to white, charging vehicle owners for traffic violations and replacement of speed governors including the ones that are serviceable.

“We are seeking dialogue with authorities on some unclear and discriminatory guidelines,” he stated.

The government has given all PSV owners till November 12 to comply with the new guidelines that will aid in ending lawlessness on the roads.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Friday said that they will go after all those who break the rules, including the passengers.

“We have taken a longer route this time. We will institutionalise our response to address this insanity. We will focus on the whole chain of responsibility,” he said.
