Boris Franz Becker is a German former professional tennis player born on November 22, 1967, in Leimen, near Heidelberg in what was then West Germany.
The son of architect Karl-Heinz Becker and Elvira Becker, he grew up in a supportive family environment that encouraged his early interest in the sport.
Known for his powerful serve, aggressive baseline play, and diving volleys, Becker earned the nickname “Boom Boom” and became a national hero in Germany during the 1980s and 1990s.
After retiring from competitive play in 1999, he worked as a television commentator and coach, and remained a public figure, navigating both professional successes and personal challenges in later years.
Siblings
Boris has one sibling, an older sister named Sabine Becker-Schorp.
Approximately four years his senior, Sabine played a formative role in his early development on the court.
She introduced him to tennis at the Blau-Weiß Leimen club, giving him his first lessons and recognizing his unusual dedication and talent when he was still a child.
While Boris rose to international fame, Sabine pursued a quieter path, becoming an architect.
She married and raised a family, including children Vincent and Carla, with whom Boris has maintained close ties over the years.

Career
Becker turned professional in the mid-1980s and quickly made history.
In 1985, at the age of 17 years and seven months, he became the youngest men’s singles champion at Wimbledon and the first unseeded player to win the title in the modern era, defeating Kevin Curren in the final.
He successfully defended the Wimbledon crown in 1986 against Ivan Lendl and claimed a third title there in 1989.
His Grand Slam success extended to the Australian Open, which he won in 1991 and 1996, and the US Open in 1989.
Over his career he secured 49 singles titles and 15 doubles titles on the ATP Tour.
In 1992 he partnered with Michael Stich to win the Olympic gold medal in men’s doubles at the Barcelona Games.
Becker also contributed significantly to Germany’s Davis Cup triumphs in 1988 and 1989.
He reached the world No. 1 ranking and spent time at the top of the standings.
Known for his fearless style on grass courts especially, he retired in 1999 after a distinguished run that helped popularize tennis in Germany.
Accolades
Among Becker’s major honors are six Grand Slam singles titles, an Olympic gold medal in doubles, and two Davis Cup championships with Germany.
He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2003 and later into the Hall of Fame of German Sports.
Additional recognitions include multiple German Sportsman of the Year awards, the Silver Laurel Leaf, European Athlete of the Year honors, a Bambi award, and various television and media prizes.
