Georgia businessman who was pictured holding a gun and standing over two dead baby elephants has been forced to come out and explain his act, after a social media backlash.

The man, Mike Jines, says that the baby elephants tried to attack him and he was forced to shoot them in self defense.

According to the Daily Mail, Jines is a partner at TopGen Energy in Alpharetta, and social media users started using the photo targeting his business.

Jines took the photo alongside professional hunter, Max ‘Buzz’ Delezenne, in Zimbabwe. However, social media users were quick to read malice in the photo, accusing the two of hunting Ivory in the African country.

Daily Mail reports that the hunt occurred in October 2018, but the images weren’t shared on social media until last month by Darrel Eisman.

“Apologies for the disturbing photo. If you’re really upset by what you see, than make this go viral along with an email letting Mike Jines know what you think,” captioned Eisman.
