    Gold, Laptops Stolen At Billionaire Reginald Mengi’s Palatial Home Days After Burial

    The family of deceased businessman Reginald Mengi has reported theft of property at the billionaire’s palatial home days after his burial.

    According to Tanzania media reports, unknown people got away with jewelry made of  gold, Laptops and unknown sums of money from two rooms in the deceased’s lavish home.

    This, Mwananchi reports happened during Mengi’s burial preparations.

    The valuables belonged to guests who paid the family a visit to condole with them following their loss.

    Following the theft, the family, which is still grieving, is expected to give a full report on the alleged incident, family spokesperson Benson Mengi says.

    Kilimanjaro Police Commander has since confirmed the incident, saying police have arrested one person – believed to be one of the family member – in connection to the theft.

    The suspect, is aiding the police with investigations.

    Mengi, who died on May 2 in Dubai, where he was receiving treatment, was laid to rest on Thursday, May 9. He died at the age of 75.

    The media mogul through his IPP Media Group owned 11 newspapers, radio and television stations, and internet properties.

    He also owned Bonite Bottlers, the sole bottler of Coca-Cola products in the northern region of Tanzania and a number of businesses.

    The philanthropist is credited with promoting business lobby power in Tanzania. He held several public positions including Chairperson of Tanzania Standard Newspapers Ltd; Commissioner of the Salaries Review Commission and Chairman of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors Tanzania (NBAA).

    He is survived with wife, Jacqueline Ntuyabaliwe-Mengi and two sons.
