A vocal United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politician Samuel Apoko Monday called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to issue a public apology over recent controversial remarks interpret some as a “kill order” against demonstrators.
Apoko, who served as Kiogoro Ward Rep during the 2017–2022 term, described Murkomen’s utterances as reckless.
The sentiments, he said, could be misinterpreted by security forces as a green light to use excessive force on protesters.
“We urge the leaders to choose their words carefully, especially in times of national tension. What CS Murkomen said is unacceptable and must be retracted. He owes Kenyans an apology,” said the UDA-aligned politician.
Such inflammatory language, stated Apoko, can only fuel violence and undermine the right to peaceful assembly as enshrined in the Constitution.
He asked President William Ruto to rein in his Cabinet members and promote dialogue over intimidation, particularly amid rising national protests targeting his government.
Separately he called for restraint and mutual respect in political discourse, raising concern over the rising trend of young people hurling insults at leaders on social media and in public forums.
He urged the youth to engage in constructive criticism rather than resorting to personal attacks and character assassination.
“We are witnessing a worrying culture where some young people think that the best way to be heard is by insulting leaders. This must stop. We must promote a culture of sober dialogue and mutual respect,” he said.
The politician stressed the importance of nurturing a new generation of leaders grounded in values and responsible citizenship.
“We should not let political differences divide us. Criticism is welcome, but it must be guided by facts and decorum,” he added.
Separately speaking in Keroka, Masaba South, a pro -Fred Matiangi group Sunday told the former Interior CS Fred Matiangi to vie for presidency.
They described Matiang’i as a firm, results-oriented leader with a proven track record in public service.
Samuel Gekonge, group chair also former Ichuni Ward Representative, cited Matiangi’s no-nonsense leadership style as evidence of his capacity to manage the country’s affairs effectively.
“We need leaders who are decisive, accountable, and development-driven. Matiang’i has demonstrated all these qualities,” stated Gekonge during a press conference.
Others praised him for what they termed as “fearless integrity,” pointing out that he remained firm in enforcing law and order without political bias.
