A Milimani court released the Atheists president Harrison Nyende Mumia accused of publishing false information about President William Ruto on a bond of Sh1 million.

Chief Magistrate Dolphina Alego on Monday granted bond to Harrison Nyende Mumia, also known as Robinson Kipruto Ngetich, after he pleaded not guilty to four counts of false publication.

He was also granted a cash bail of Sh500,000 and ordered to surrender his passport.

The prosecution alleged that on December 30, 2025, while at an unknown location within Kenya, Mumia used a pseudo Facebook account under the username Robinson Kipruto Ngetich to post images of President William Ruto lying on a bed and falsely portraying him as deceased.

In a separate count, the court heard that the accused posted another image of the President allegedly lying on a hospital bed while in a critical medical condition, information the prosecution maintains was false and misleading.

He is also accused of publishing on an Instagram account operated under the name Harrison Mumia with the username @harrisonmumia.

Prosecutors told the court that the posts falsely depicted the Head of State as deceased and critically ill.

Mumia is the founder and President of the Atheists In Kenya Society.

His lawyer Levi Munyeri protested Mumia was arrested on December 31, 2025 and on January 2, the DCI took him to Milimani Law Courts where the prosecution declined to approve the charge sheet.

He was granted a police bail of Sh10,000 that was later canceled over unclear reasons.

The case is scheduled for mention on January 19, 2026.
