Brazil’s Supreme Court has voted to convict two politicians of ordering the murder of the prominent Rio de Janeiro councillor and activist, Marielle Franco. Brothers Domingos Inácio Brazão and João Francisco Inácio Brazão were sentenced to more than 76 years each for masterminding the drive-by shooting that killed Franco alongside her driver Anderson Gomes in 2018. Four people who entered Cuban waters on a US-registered speedboat have been shot dead by border guards, Cuba’s government said. In a statement, Cuba’s interior ministry said that the speedboat’s passengers opened fire on a coast guard vessel that approached them. At least 845 incidents of mob justice were recorded across the country since January 2025, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said. Murkomen disclosed that of the total cases reported, 579 resulted in deaths while 266 led to injuries, painting a grim picture of the scale and severity of the vice. Two men were Tuesday arrested while carrying a two-and-half long cobra snake in Kanduyi, Bungoma County. The men aged 38 and 23 were riding a motorcycle with the forest cobra which was black and white. One of them claimed to be a pastor while the other was a patient in need of prayers. A university student died by suicide in his room in Kesses area, Uasin Gishu County. Detectives are investigating an incident where a 10-year-old boy died after jumping from the fourth floor of a residential apartment in South B, Nairobi. The incident happened on February 24 evening. The victim was a grade six pupil at Our Lady of Mercy in the area, police said. A review of security footage showed he ran upstairs and jumped off falling on the ground floor.
