A 36-year-old man is cooling his heels in police cells awaiting arraignment in court over a fake kidnapping incident reported in Kabusenduk village in Bureti, Kericho County. The boda boda rider is accused of faking his kidnapping in an attempt to extort his wife Sh100,000. A Malindi court has ordered the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to produce missing Lamu ambulance driver Yasir Mahmoud Ahmed said to have been abducted by people believed to be State security agents in Mkunumbi on the Lamu-Witu-Garsen road on June 19. Police in Nairobi are holding five men over an alleged plot to raid Prime Bank located in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD). A requiem mass for 11 Kenya Airforce soldiers killed in a chopper crash in Kajiado County last Thursday is currently underway in Nairobi. The mass is being held at Moi Air Base Gymnasium in Eastleigh. The 11 were among 23 soldiers who were on board the KAF helicopter Mi 171 E that crashed and burst into flames at OlTepesi area in Ngong on Thursday at about 9am. Former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura will continue serving as the chairperson of the Communication Authority (CA) board, a Nairobi court has ruled. In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, the Employment and Labour Relations Court dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of Gitura to CA by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March this year. The case was filed by a citizen Benedict Kabugi Ndung’u who argued that the appointment for a three-year term was irregular. Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria has been appointed as Director-General for the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA). In a press statement issued on Wednesday, EPRA board announced that Mr Kiptoo had been appointed to the role for a term of three years renewable once with effect from July 1, 2021. Mr Kiptoo has held the position in an acting capacity since December 14, 2020. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has announced a waiver of ordinary membership fees as its leadership intensifies the recruitment drive ahead of the 2022 General Election. In a memo directed to all county chairs and members, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the directive to waive the Ksh100 was given by Raila Odinga, the party leader.
