Billy Andrade is a respected American professional golfer celebrated for his precision, short game, and philanthropic efforts in the sport.

Born William Thomas Andrade on January 25, 1964, in Bristol, Rhode Island, he grew up in a tight-knit family that instilled strong values of kindness and community.

Andrade excelled as a junior golfer, earning the 1981 Rolex Junior Player of the Year award as the top-ranked junior in the country.

He attended Wake Forest University, where he helped lead the Demon Deacons to the 1986 NCAA team championship.

After turning professional in 1987, he enjoyed a solid career on the PGA Tour before transitioning to the PGA Tour Champions.

    Siblings

Billy has one sibling named Jane, who has special needs and significantly influenced Billy’s compassionate outlook on life.

Billy has spoken warmly about growing up in an ‘unbelievable home’ with parents who provided a strong foundation.

    Career

Andrade’s amateur success paved the way for a professional career marked by consistency rather than power.

After earning his PGA Tour card in 1987, he secured four victories: back-to-back wins in 1991 at the Kemper Open and Buick Classic, the 1998 Bell Canadian Open, and the dramatic 2000 Invensys Classic at Las Vegas, where a new Titleist Pro V1 golf ball helped turn around a difficult season.

Known for his excellent short game and putting, he recorded numerous top-10 finishes and reached a career-high world ranking of 42nd.

In 2014, he joined the PGA Tour Champions and quickly found success, capturing three victories in 2015 alone—the Boeing Classic (his first individual senior win), the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf (with partner Joe Durant), and the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

He has earned over $9 million on the Champions Tour and remains active into his 60s, balancing competition with broadcasting duties as an on-course reporter for Golf Channel.

    Accolades

Andrade’s four PGA Tour wins and three on the PGA Tour Champions highlight his competitive longevity, alongside six additional professional victories in other events.

He has been inducted into the Rhode Island Golf Hall of Fame (2001), Wake Forest Athletics Hall of Fame (2004), and Georgia Golf Hall of Fame (2023).

In 2022, he received the prestigious Payne Stewart Award for his sportsmanship, character, and charitable endeavors.

Andrade co-founded the Billy Andrade/Brad Faxon Charities for Children in 2001, which has raised millions to support youth golf and education programs.

He also co-hosts the annual East Lake Invitational, benefiting community initiatives, and has earned other honors such as the Golf Writers Association of America’s Charlie Bartlett Award.
