Detectives are investigating the murder of a two-year-old boy whose body was found at a dump site in Mlolongo, Machakos County.

The boy is believed to have been killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the site behind Mlolongo Primary School on January 22, 2026.

Police said the body had healed scars and blood was oozing from the left ear.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures. No arrest had been made by Friday morning and the child was yet to be identified, police said.

Elsewhere in Koru, Kisumu County, a man was killed by his neighbour in a feud in the Kipsamwe area, police said.

The body of Joseph Acholla, 66 was found in his plot with multiple panga injuries in the head and hands. The assailant was said to be his nieghbour, police said adding he escaped the scene after the Thursday murder.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said the two had argued over land issues.

Such murder incidents have been on the rise amid efforts to address them. Police say most murder incidents reported are linked to land disputes and love triangles.

In Masinga, Machakos County, a 17-year-old boy drowned while bathing on the Tana River.

The boy had come home and later left saying he was going to bathe and swim at the river. The body was found in the water and retrieved to the mortuary, police said of the January 22 incident.

He was a student at the Kyangosi Junior Secondary, police said.

Drowning incidents are rampant on the river amid calls for caution on the users of the water to avoid such tragedies.

Police said at least two people drown weekly in the river, which is alarming.
