A British national of Indian origin was found dead in his hotel room in the Parklands area, Nairobi.

Police said Prakash Raojibhai Manbhai, his relatives and business partners had checked to the hotel on February 2 for a short holiday when the incident happened.

He was found unresponsive in his room on Monday February 3 in the morning.

Witnesses said after having breakfast at the hotel the deceased started complaining of chest pains whereby he was moved to his room to arrange for medication.

He died before the arrival of emergency services from the Kenya Red Cross.

Assorted drugs for the treatment of diabetes were found in his room.

Meanwhile, a University of Nairobi student was found dead after a suspected suicide in Kabete area.

The body of Alvin Ng’ang’a, a student pursuing a bachelor of commerce was found on Kapenguria Road near the Lower Kabete Campus.

Police said he died by suicide. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Elsewhere in Mwimuto, Kingeero, Kabete, one Omukuba Asulu, 28 was found dead after a suspected suicide.

Police said they found a container used to keep insecticide that he is suspected to have swallowed.

The bottle was found next to his body after the Sunday night incident.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and investigations. In Makindu, Makueni, one Mulu Nduku, 28 was found dead after a suicide mission.

His body was found hanging in his grandmother’s house with a rope tied around his neck. Police said the body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Suicide cases have been on the rise amid calls for action to tame the trend.

The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
