    Carrie Ann Inaba was born on January 5, 1968, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She began dancing at just three years old and spent much of her childhood practicing outdoors near the Pacific Ocean. Inaba attended Punahou School, graduating in 1986.

    After winning a talent competition around the time of her graduation, she moved to Japan to pursue a singing career. She later returned to the United States and earned a Bachelor’s degree in World Arts and Cultures from UCLA.

    Singing Career in Japan

    Inaba moved to Japan in 1986 and quickly found success as a pop singer and television personality. Although she did not speak Japanese fluently at the time, she learned her songs phonetically and released several singles, including “Party Girl,” “Be Your Girl,” and “Yume no Senaka.”

    She also hosted weekly radio and television shows in Tokyo before returning to the U.S. in 1988. While her music career helped launch her into the spotlight, Inaba later shifted her focus back to dance.

    Dance Career

    After returning to the United States, Carrie Ann Inaba became widely known as one of the original Fly Girls on Fox’s sketch comedy show “In Living Color,” appearing from 1990 to 1992.

    Her dance career continued to grow as she performed with major artists, including Prince and Madonna. Notably, she appeared as a featured dancer on Madonna’s 1993 Girlie Show World Tour, a major milestone that boosted her international profile.

    Inaba also built a successful career as a choreographer, working on numerous television shows such as American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, and the Miss America Pageant, which she choreographed for five years.
