Nairobi County Assembly members have voted to impeach county assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi.
The motion raised by Waithaka MCA Antony Kiragu on Thursday, was passed by 103 members of the county assembly while 2 members voted against and 2 members abstained.
The MCAs accused Elachi of gross misconduct and embarrassing the county government.
“Her actions and omissions have caused embarrassment and brought the office of the speaker into disrepute, this assembly resolves to sanction,” Kiragu said.
The MCA’S have accused Elachi of abusing her office and undermining the authority of the county assembly board.
Members also complained that she misuses county funds in her travel through intimidation and failing to follow the set procedures.
There is also conflict of interest in the acquisition of the speaker’s house in Karen, which was being bought at an inflated price.
Elachi had earlier tried to urge the speakers to table the motion and follow dialogue.
