Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat has underscored the importance of Magadi Field Campus in preparing General Service Unit (GSU) recruits for demanding policing assignments.
Speaking at Magadi during the closure of the 1A/2025 training course, Lagat said the camp’s harsh environmental conditions, including high temperatures and rugged terrain, help build resilient and disciplined officers.
“Magadi is not an easy place to train, and that is precisely why it is critical to police training,” he said.
The Deputy Inspector General said the demanding conditions test recruits physically, sharpen their minds and strengthen their character, preparing them to serve in diverse and difficult environments.
He reminded the officers that police work requires readiness to serve wherever they are deployed, regardless of the prevailing circumstances.
“This is the purpose of Magadi. It reminds us that a police officer does not choose the conditions under which duty will be called,” Lagat said.
He added that the training had equipped the recruits with endurance, survival skills, discipline, teamwork and technological competence required for modern policing.
Lagat urged the graduates to uphold discipline, fairness and courage in their assignments, while treating members of the public with humanity.
“Stand firm. Stay disciplined. Be fair. Be humane. Serve with courage,” he advised.
He also commended the course commanders for their dedication and commitment in equipping the recruits with the skills and professionalism required to serve with honour.
Lagat said Magadi had a long-standing legacy of producing highly capable police officers. He noted that the camp’s history of testing and preparing officers for duty dates back to its establishment at the site in 1981, following earlier training locations including Kowop in Samburu, Ol Pejeta, Ngong and Kora.
