Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji now wants the police to investigate a vigilante group in Nairobi Eastlands area who allegedly are being led by an undercover police officer known as ‘Hessy.’

Speaking on Thursday during a community dialogue meeting held at Kayole Social Hall, Haji stated that he would draft a letter to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet for him to take action against the group.

According to the DPP and the locals, the group is claimed to be involved in the killings of supposed criminals in Dandora, Kayole and other areas in Eastlands area.

“No one should be killed; suspects must go through legal process. I will write to IG to investigate on Hessy vigilante group,” DPP stated.

The mysterious social media user, claiming to be a plain-clothe police officer and going by the names Hessy wa Kayole, Hessy wa Dandora and Hessy wa Huruma, has been accused of warning suspects, who often end up gunned down in cold blood.

Accompanied by the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti, Haji called upon the community to help detectives in identifying criminal elements.

Haji added: “Expose criminals we shall protect you as a witness. No victimization. Those who have spoken and exposed sensitive issues in this forum must be protected by local administration.”

During the forum, DCI Kinoti, who at some point was seen shading tears from listening to the experiences of the locals, expressed his agitation by the escalation of cases of rogue officers executing suspects instead of arresting the perpetrators.

He vowed to crack down the errant officers and swore to stop at nothing to ensure justice will be served.

“I stand before God if myself or anybody who will ever cover for someone who has killed an innocent person, let God curse me. I am saying no one will ever cover for a police officer who kills under my watch,” he affirmed.
