The Office of the director of public prosecution has refuted claims by senior counsel Ahmednassir who had through his tweet said that Kenya has a conviction rate of 2%.

Denying accused persons bail on the ground that they are "flight risk" is an old tired execuse. Kenyans don't flee their country to avoid trial…with a conviction rate of less than 2% why should any one be scared of trial in a Kenyan court…of course unless you are very POOR.

    — Ahmednasir Abdullahi SC (@ahmednasirlaw) October 31, 2018

During the launch of the State of the Judiciary and Administration of Justice Report officiated by His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta, the ODPP was lauded for registering the highest conviction rate to be ever witnessed in Kenya.

The conviction rate  according to the report stands at 72.4% as opposed to the 2% alleged by the outspoken lawyer.  The Chief Justice said that this was the highest rate in that category.

Ahmednassir was trying to prove that Justice Wakiaga was unfair in denying Jowie bail stating that it was a tired excuse to term him as a flight risk.
