The Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly has declared the position of Speaker vacant following the resignation of Philemon Kiplagat Sabulei.
In a gazette notice dated January 30, 2025, County Assembly Clerk Jane Mutai announced the vacancy, citing Article 178(1) of the Constitution, Section 11(1)(d) of the County Governments Act, 2012, and Standing Order 4 of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly Standing Orders.
“IT IS notified for the information of the general public that pursuant to Article 178 (1) of the Constitution, section 11 (1) (d) of the County Governments Act, 2012 and Standing Order 4 of the Elgeyo/Marakwet Standing Orders, the Office of the Speaker of the County Assembly has become vacant following the resignation from office of Philemon Kiplagat Sabulei,” the notivce reads.
Following the resignation, the assembly has scheduled an election for a new Speaker on February 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
Eligible candidates who meet the qualifications to be elected as Members of the County Assembly, but are not currently serving as MCAs, are invited to submit their nomination papers.
Nomination forms can be collected from the Office of the Clerk at the County Assembly Buildings in Iten during working hours or downloaded from the County Assembly’s official website, www.emcassembly.go.ke, starting Friday, January 31, 2025.
Completed nomination papers, along with the candidate’s curriculum vitae and supporting documents, must be hand-delivered to the Office of the Clerk at the County Assembly Buildings in Iten no later than 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025.
