    Members of the public have raised concerns  over the extra judicial killings that have been witnessed in the passed week.

    It is alleged that police have killed 17 people in  Dandora, Majengo and Mathare. Among those killed was Samuel Musili a KCSE student at Dandora Secondary School. His father narrated how he was alerted by a neighbor that his son had been killed.

    In one of the incident Buruburu police boss claimed that the killings happened after the six  robbed a bodaboda ride and gang raped a woman, claims that the eye witnesses refuted. This out cry forced the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to probe the extra judicial killings

    According to to reports by the victims relatives those that have been killed are mostly innocent young men. They say that police go to the extent of  forcefully removing the young men from their premises and frog matching before killing them.

    “These boys were innocent and my sister’s husband was a mere hawker. He was hawking second-hand shoes in this area and everyone knows him,” Wanjiru told The Star as tears rolled down her cheeks.

    Section 61 of the National Police Service Act states that;

    “A police officer shall always attempt to use non-violent means first and force may only be employed when non-violent means are ineffective or without any promise of achieving the intended result.

    The force used shall be proportional to the objective to be achieved, the seriousness of the offense, and the resistance of the person against whom it is used, and only to the extent necessary while adhering to the provisions of the law and the Standing Orders”

    Human rights organizations have lauded the IPOA for their speedy actions into the matter.
